TechIsland Investment Initiative
Uniting eight coastal communities to attract global tech investment
The Work
-
To unify eight distinct coastal municipalities under a single, compelling banner, I developed the "TechIsland" brand name. This required navigating complex stakeholder relationships and municipal identities to land on a name that was instantly recognizable, highly marketable, and clearly communicated the initiative's ultimate goal: transforming the Vancouver Island corridor into a premier destination for global tech investment.
-
Beyond the name, I built the foundational voice and messaging matrix for the entire initiative. This included crafting the core tagline—"The best climate for growing your ideas"—along with comprehensive brand guidelines that dictated social media tone, public-facing documents, and digital copy. This ensured a cohesive, authoritative narrative across all touchpoints, allowing multiple communities to speak with one unified voice.
-
I authored the complete suite of website copy for the initiative's primary digital hub. The goal was twofold: to distill complex regional economic data into an engaging, accessible narrative, and to structure the content for maximum search engine visibility. By balancing strategic SEO practices with persuasive storytelling, the site effectively captured attention and successfully guided high-value traffic toward regional investment opportunities.
-
To establish the region's credibility and drive sustained organic traffic, I spearheaded a comprehensive content marketing rollout. This involved interviewing local innovators and authoring 24 in-depth business profiles that highlighted tech firms already thriving on the island. This long-form content not only improved the site's search rankings—contributing to a 273% boost in web traffic—but also provided tangible, human-centric proof of a viable tech ecosystem.
-
Before drafting a single word, I conducted extensive market and audience research to understand the specific drivers behind foreign direct investment. By analyzing the competitive landscape and identifying exactly what global investors and tech executives value most—such as infrastructure, talent acquisition, and lifestyle metrics—I was able to tailor the entire TechIsland narrative to speak directly to their priorities and investment criteria.

The goal was to transform the Vancouver Island corridor into a premier destination for global tech investment by streamlining complex regional economic data into an accessible, highly marketable narrative.
The Strategy
The name TechIsland represents the initiative’s ultimate goal in a very tangible way: to transform Vancouver Island into a globally recognized tech hub. Working alongside the agency's design team, I developed the foundational voice and messaging matrix for the entire initiative. I spearheaded the naming process, landing on "TechIsland," and crafted the core tagline: "The best climate for growing your ideas." I then authored the complete suite of SEO-optimized website copy and an organic content rollout—including 24 in-depth business profiles—to provide human-centric proof of a viable tech ecosystem.
The Impact
The cohesive messaging successfully united multiple communities under one voice. The combination of targeted web copy and long-form organic content established the region's credibility, contributing to a 273% boost in web traffic and successfully guiding high-value global investors toward regional opportunities.
