BC Agrifood and Seafood Export-Ready Business Catalogue
Creating a cohesive provincial narrative to drive global agricultural exports
The Work
-
Editing submissions from dozens of independent business owners requires a delicate editorial balance. I refined and condensed highly varied product descriptions into a unified, accessible provincial voice. This ensured international importers experienced a consistent, professional reading experience, regardless of whether they were reading about a boutique organic farm or a massive commercial seafood fishery.
-
To maintain the Ministry's authoritative tone, I provided ongoing editorial consultation, ensuring that all submitted copy met strict government-level quality standards before being published. This rigorous QA process prevented off-brand messaging, corrected inconsistencies, and guaranteed a premium, professional representation of British Columbia's agricultural sector on the global stage.

The Brief
To drive global purchasing and showcase the province's world-class food industry, the Ministry of Agriculture produces a comprehensive directory of export-ready businesses for overseas markets. The core challenge for the 2019 edition was taking raw, highly varied profile submissions from independent BC-based food exporters and refining them into a single, cohesive, government-approved document tailored for an international B2B audience.
The Strategy
Acting as the lead copyeditor and content consultant, I was responsible for standardizing the submitted corporate profiles for both the physical and digital editions of the catalogue. This required stripping away disparate marketing jargon and applying a rigorous editorial framework. I refined the copy to ensure it met strict provincial communication standards, while carefully preserving each exporter's unique value proposition and product offerings to ensure they remained highly competitive to global importers.
The Impact
The rigorous editorial standardization successfully elevated the catalogue from a simple list of businesses into a highly polished, world-class international trade asset. The quality and structural integrity of the profiles I edited established a lasting baseline for the Ministry—with the vast majority of those specific exporter profiles remaining active and largely unchanged through subsequent publications.
